At 6:00 pm we all walked (or rode) up the hill from the riverfront to the Cole-Diggs House, which is now the Carrot Tree Restaurant (www.carrottreekitchens.com), for the rehearsal dinner. We took over their first floor and were treated to a very nice and tasty colonial fare dinner. The dessert was amazing (carrot cake or chocolate cake) and we all left very fat and happy. This was the official beginning of the wedding celebration. The wedding party and all other younger guests headed straight for the Yorktown Pub to kick off the celebration! (www.theyorktownpub.com) The more mature (baby boomers ) returned to the motel (http://www.dukeofyorkmotel.com/ )and met in one of the rooms that we had designated the "hospitality suite". It was stocked with alcohol, soft drinks, Large coffee maker and many assorted snacks! We sat around and reminisced about raising these young people and all that we had experienced bringing them to this time in their lives and ours. We were nostalgic...we
were happy.
My husband Van and Shawnette and our friends Chris and Allison decided at about 11 pm to walk over to the Pub and check in with the younger contingency. We arrived to a very jovial and animated crowd being served by a very worn out looking server! I sat down and nursed a cocktail while several of the wedding party visited with us. They were so sweet to share the stories of their history with Matt and Alex or their memories of sharing their time with our family through the years. I was so glad we took that time to spend with them in their natural environment :). The bride left early to go home and get rest before the big day. The rest of the group partied on. We departed about an hour later and were out by 12:30 pm!
Woke up at 7 am and it was "the wedding day"!!! Opened the curtains to a steel grey sky, waves on rocks, and wind wind wind!
to be continued....Wedding Day!
